Trading Station Web

Overview

Trading Station Web was a full redesign of our browser-based trading platform. The goal was to bring a traditionally complex desktop trading experience into a modern, responsive web product without losing depth or control.

I led the UX and UI design from the ground up, defining structure, interaction patterns, and visual direction for the entire platform.

The Challenge

Trading platforms are dense by nature. They carry a high level of complexity, real-time data, and advanced functionality, all of which needed to be preserved in a browser environment.

The main challenge was balancing power with usability. Experienced traders expect depth and speed, but the interface still needed to feel clean, structured, and accessible across different screen sizes.

The Approach

The work started by breaking down core trading workflows and rebuilding them into clearer, more modular patterns. Instead of replicating desktop density, the focus shifted toward progressive disclosure, where advanced functionality is available without overwhelming the primary interface.

The UI system was redesigned to support responsiveness from the ground up, with components that could adapt to different layouts while maintaining consistency and clarity. This also pushed early evolution of our design system, especially around data-heavy components like charts, tables, and order panels.

Attention was given to hierarchy and scanning behavior, ensuring users could quickly read market data and execute actions without losing context. Each panel was designed to work independently while still feeling part of a unified trading workspace.

Outcome

The result was a more structured and scalable web trading experience that preserved the complexity of the platform while making it more usable in a browser environment. It also became a foundation for later improvements in our design system and cross-platform consistency.

Takeaway

Complex products do not become simpler by removing features. They become usable when structure, hierarchy, and interaction design make complexity easier to navigate.
